BRIGADIER GENERAL STEPHEN P. LUEBBERT Brig. Gen. Stephen P. Luebbert is vice commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. In this position, he is responsible for assisting the commander in providing worldwide logistics support for assigned Air Force weapons systems which include the -135 series aircraft, the B-1B, B-52 and B-2 bombers, as well as the E-3 Sentry aircraft. After serving in the U.S. Army as a helicopter gunship instructor pilot to the South Vietnamese Air Force, the general transferred to the U.S. Air Force in 1973. He served three separate tours in the FB-111 fighter-bomber between 1974 and 1989. Under his command, the 715th Bomb Squadron earned 8th Air Force's Best Bomber Squadron Trophy for 1988-1989. While assigned to the Pentagon in 1986, the general led the Air Force response to the Department of Defense Reorganization Act and the newly defined role of the unified commanders in chief. As director of the Combat Plans Division, he directed the Air Force's conventional cruise missile strikes against key Iraqi targets during the Gulf War.
