BRIGADIER GENERAL RONALD D. GRAY

Brigadier General Ronald D. Gray is commander, 21st Space Wing, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

General Gray was born in 1942, in Dallas and graduated from Chicopee (Mass.) High School in 1960. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Texas A&M University in 1964 and a master of science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1973. He completed Squadron Officer School in 1968, Air Command and Staff College in 1978, and Air War College in 1985.

The general was commissioned in May 1964 and entered active duty in June 1964 at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. There he served as a contract maintenance officer. In April 1966 he volunteered for and was accepted as a Minuteman launch control officer. Upon completion of training he served as an alert crewmember in both the Minuteman I and Minuteman modernized weapon systems. In November 1967 he was transferred to Minot Air Force Base, N.D., for duty as an airborne launch control system crewmember.

In March 1970 General Gray was assigned to the staff of the 4315th Combat Crew Training Squadron, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., serving in a variety of positions. He then served at the command post, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., from June 1972 until June 1976, when he was assigned to McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. In May 1981 he became commander of the 381st Missile Maintenance Squadron, McConnell Air Force Base, and in January 1983 was assigned as assistant deputy commander for maintenance, 381st Strategic Missile Wing. He became deputy commander of the 381st Combat Support Group in August 1983.

The general was transferred to Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, as director, missile warning, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans, in August 1985. Remaining at Space Command, in May 1987 he was assigned as vice commander of 1st Space Wing and became commander in September 1987. In June 1989 he became deputy chief of staff for operations, Air Force Space Command headquarters. He assumed his current position in May 1992.

His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Combat Readiness Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

He was promoted to brigadier general April 1, 1990, with same date of rank.
