Richard Smeeding prepares to taxi prior to an aerial performance during Aero India 2017 at Air Force Station Yelahanka Feb. 16, 2017. The F-16 is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack and provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. The United States participates in air shows and other regional events to demonstrate its commitment to the security of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, promote the standardization and interoperability of equipment, and display capabilities critical to the success of current and future military operations. There’s an old joke that points out the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it into a fruit salad. The same can be true regarding deployments. Knowledge may come after a few years on the job, but wisdom comes after a career full of deployments. Currently serving his ninth deployment to the U.S. Air Forces Central Command area of responsibility, Chief Master Sgt. Kelly Delaney, a 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron loadmaster, has plenty of wisdom to share from his 36-year career with the Air Force.
