Where there were once hopes and dreams, Katrina left devastation and destruction. But through the wreckage of it all, the survivors persevered.

Defense Department officials establish Ebola medical support team
When Capt. Stacey Morgan’s squadron commander sent her a text message saying that she needed to immediately call him, her first thought was, “Uh-oh. What did I do?” But after a minute or two of talking to her commander, her apprehension was quickly replaced by anxious excitement, as he asked her to become a member of a 30-person military Ebola medical support team.

Airman takes positive spin after selected for separation
At 27 years old and after nearly five years of being in uniform, Senior Airman Lee Owens is rejoining the civilian workforce in September.
Like more than 3,500 Airmen Air Force-wide, the 42nd Air Base Wing-assigned broadcast engineer was selected for separation after being identified by the Air Force’s first Quality Force Review Board. However, unlike some, Owens is looking back on his time in uniform the same way he views his future: positively.

Branched out: From Marine, Soldier, Sailor to Airman
Staff Sgt. Jesus Yanez, currently deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from the Texas Air National Guard's 204th Security Forces Squadron in El Paso, Texas, has answered his nation's call not just once but four times: first as a Marine, then a Sailor, Soldier and currently as an Airman.
