Nominations open for 2017 American Legion Spirit of Service Award
Air Force officials are accepting nominations for the 2017 American Legion Spirit of Service Award which is presented annually to one enlisted member from the active and reserve components who demonstrated outstanding volunteer service in their local community.

Biking brings hope to wounded, recovering veterans
Members from Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, volunteered as part of the Ride 2 Recovery (R2R) program and brought more than 20 wounded and recovering veterans together for the Vegas Challenge Feb. 1-3 in Blue Diamond, Nevada.

AFSOUTH Airmen visit orphans, deliver gifts to those in need
Up a winding mountain road through the mountains of Honduras, about an hour outside the city of Tegucigalpa, is the town of Casa de Corderitos, a small community of orphaned and neglected children. This is where Airmen from 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) decided to spend some of their downtime during a recent visit to various Honduran air bases.

American Legion, president honor air traffic control Airman for volunteer efforts
A 366th Operations Support Squadron air traffic control craftsman here recently received the American Legion Spirit of Service Award for outstanding volunteer service from President Barack Obama. Staff Sgt. Jessica M. Day accepted the 2014 award from the commander-in-chief at the Legion's National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, Aug. 26.
