The Air Force has two commissioning programs for enlisted Airmen who have, or are close to having, their nursing degrees. The Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Programs helps you finish your degree while the Direct Enlisted Commissioning Program is open to enlisted Airmen with a nursing degree and license. Senior Airman Yia Thao, was born in Thailand in the American refugee camp of Bamvinah. Thao was recently selected for the Airman Scholarship Commissioning Program, which offers active-duty enlisted personnel who can complete all bachelor degree and commissioning requirements in 2 to 4 years, the opportunity to earn a commission as an Air Force ROTC cadet. Staff Sgt. Jacob Williams, 65th Force Support Squadron Career Development craftsman, was recently selected to commission as a first lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps. He will wear his first lieutenant bars Jan. 12, 2014, after separating from active duty the day prior then report to Maxwell AFB, Ala., for Commissioned Officer Training.  



NCO to commission as first lieutenant
A noncommissioned officer from the 65th Force Support Squadron was recently selected to commission as a first lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps. Staff Sgt. Jacob Williams, 65th FSS career development craftsman, was so anxious he couldn't eat breakfast on the morning of Oct. 18. Some of the MSC applicants with whom he was connected on Facebook had already received notification of their selection for commission. Applicants who were not selected received no response. So far, he'd received nothing.
