Similar to a sine wave, everyone has ups and downs, but it's their spirituality that gets them to the next day. No matter the faith background, where a person is from or who their family is, everyone has some sort of spirituality to lean on during both the hard times and the fun ones.

In 2009, a young Air Force lieutenant in pilot training thought his dreams of flying in the Air Force were crushed following a recreational boating accident that resulted in the loss of his right leg. Despite the accident, Capt. Ryan McGuire, now a 4th Airlift Squadron pilot, became the first Airman to complete Air Force pilot training after losing a leg.

Staff Sgt. Ronald Ball  joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard at 47 years old after a successful career with the Philadelphia Police Department. In 2012, Ball returned to military service as an Airman after being out of the Army for 18 years. Col. Robert Swanson recently came forward to express his desire to testify of a time in which he attempted to end his own life earlier in his Air Force career. Swanson said it is critical that Airmen keep communication lines open, and to seek out help from a source that works for them and that they can connect with.
