When her husband threatened to take her to the emergency room, she made an appointment with a cardiologist and later had her blood drawn. An urgent call from the doctor later sent her to the emergency room, where she was as stunned as everyone else with the diagnosis -- Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) sub type 2, a rare form of cancer. She was told if she made it two weeks, it would be a miracle.

In June 2007, 4-year-old Ty Nordstrom caught a 7-pound catfish in Lake Kirby, Abilene, Texas. In October 2007, Ty faced an even bigger battle when he was diagnosed with non-rhabdomyosarcoma cancer. Ty Nordstrom was just 4 years old when he caught a large catfish by himself. But that wasn't the only battle Ty faced at such a young age. He soon had to deal with something much scarier -- cancer.

First Lt Rob Hansen beat a bout of Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer during training, graduate and get awarded the F-22 Raptor. He spent 16 months fighting to get back in the program after his diagnosis. Upon graduating as a distinguished graduate for scoring in the top 10 percent of the class, he was awarded the Daedalian Award for top formation pilot; the Flying Excellence award for the top overall flying score, and the commander’s trophy for being the top graduate. For one new Air Force pilot, "living the dream" is much more than a cheap throwaway line. To 1st Lt. Rob Hansen of the 80th Flying Training Wing, "living" means surviving stage 2 Hodgkin's lymphoma. "The dream" means graduating at the top of his undergraduate pilot training class and earning a slot flying the world's most advanced fighter.
