Ken Rizer, the 11th Wing/Joint Base Andrews commander; Erin Conaton, the Under Secretary of the Air Force; Rep. Donna F. Edwards, of the Maryland 4th Congressional District; and Col. Phillip Gibbons, the Air Force District of Washington vice commander, shovel soil to plant a red maple sapling during the Earth Day observance kickoff April 20, 2011at Joint Base Andrews, Md. During the ceremony, Ms. Conaton addressed attendees and emphasized the Air Force’s commitment to good stewardship of the natural resources the service depends upon today to ensure a secure tomorrow.
