7/25/2011 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Defense Department officials announced July 25 the launch of a new website to highlight the department's first unified strategy for cyberspace.

Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III announced the department's Strategy for Operating in Cyberspace on July 14 at National Defense University at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington.

"We do not know the exact way in which cyber will figure in the execution of (DOD's) mission, or the precise scenarios that will arise," Lynn told an audience of military and civilian officials, educators and reporters. "But the centrality of information technology to our military operations and our society virtually guarantees that future adversaries will target our dependence on it."

The new website, online at http://www.defense.gov/cyber, is a tool that will help to explain and consolidate the Pentagon's cybersecurity accomplishments and the new way forward for military, intelligence and business operations in cyberspace, officials said.

The new site will help users explore the five pillars of DOD's cyber strategy: treating cyberspace as an operational domain, using new defense operating concepts, partnering with the public and private sectors, building international partnerships and leveraging talent and innovation.

The website includes links to cybersecurity jobs in government, expert biographies, news items, news releases and cybersecurity videos.
