5/29/2012 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas  -- Lieutenant colonel and lieutenant colonel-select nurses interested in chief nurse opportunities must ensure their Airman Development Plan is up to date and statement of intent is submitted by the June 11 suspense, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.

The nurse corps development team will convene in June to select qualified candidates for 2013 worldwide openings, said Col Lorrie Cappellino, AFPC Nurse Utilization and Education Branch chief.

"Interest in chief nurse positions is always high, and with the limited number of available positions, selection is very competitive and eligibility requirements are stringent," said Cappellino.

Applicants should have leadership experience above the element level, national nursing administration certification, and have completed development education appropriate for their rank, Cappellino said. In addition, a master's degree is mandatory as are various administrative criteria such as minimum time on station.

All eligible officers must submit a statement of intent whether or not they are interested in a chief nurse position, Cappellino said. Those who are not interested will express their declination on the statement of intent.

"Sitting chief nurses must also indicate, via SOI, their interest if they want another CN position in 2013," Cappellino said. "And statements of intent must be signed by the group commander or equivalent."

Officers who submit a group commander or equivalent-endorsed statement of intent to compete for a chief nurse position are considered worldwide volunteers for 2013 vacancies.

For complete application instructions and eligibility criteria, go to the Air Force Personnel Services website at https://mypers.mil and search for "CY13 Chief Nurse."
