7/24/2012 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz presented the 2012 Military Times Airman of the Year award to a digital maintenance supervisor from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., here July 19.
Master Sgt. Brandon Lambert, of the 728th Air Control Squadron, was nominated by a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., for his service last year in Afghanistan and his involvement in the community.
While deployed to Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, Lambert helped assist in the transportation of wounded service members into hospitals or onto medical aircraft bound for Germany, according to the citation.
Lambert was deployed from July 2011 to January 2012 during which he served as a maintenance flight chief and oversaw more than 30,000 maintenance actions for six work centers and some $60 million in equipment assets. He also served as the unit travel representative and acting first sergeant.
Additionally, Lambert helped create the "penny a push-up" fundraiser and, with the help of other service members, he raised $4,500 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Upon his return to Eglin AFB, Lambert continued to assist the community by helping collect and deliver more than 7,000 pounds of food to feed people in need. Additionally, he has dedicated nearly 300 hours to various community projects and helped raise more than $10,000 for a number of charitable organizations.
