6/5/2013 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced June 4 that the president has nominated Lt. Gen. Frank Gorenc for appointment to the rank of general and for assignment as commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe; commander, U.S. Air Forces Africa; commander, Allied Air Command; and director, Joint Air Power Competence Centre, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
"I'm honored and deeply humbled by the nomination to serve as the next commander, U.S. Air Forces Europe; commander, U.S. Air Forces Africa; commander, Allied Air Command; and director, Joint Air Power Competence Centre, Ramstein Air Base, Germany," Gorenc said. "If confirmed, it would be a privilege to return to Europe and serve our Airmen and our many partners in the region. In the meantime, I remain focused on my current duties as assistant vice chief of staff and director, Air Staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force."

6/10/2013 9:06:23 AM ET I echo the others in saying General Gorenc is a Class act. I worked for him twice in my career Kadena and Balad. The United States and our AF got it right when they selected him to Command USAFE and AFAFRICA. Congrats General.

6/7/2013 1:14:51 PM ET Humble describes Lt Gen Gorenc well. I served with him on the ACCA1 staff in the early 90s when he was a Major. When I congratulated him for being on the Lt Col select list he said Chief sometimes the AF lets one slide through. Great leader then and now. Congratulations and thanks for your continued service.
