With tax season halfway over, the Fort Riley Tax Center has provided free tax preparation services to Soldiers, retirees and dependents. So far, we have prepared more than 4,500 federal returns, 3,400 state returns and aided our clients in receiving more than $10.8 million dollars in refunds. But, most importantly, we have saved our clients more than $1.1 million dollars in preparation fees.

By getting your taxes done at the Fort Riley Tax Center, you will pay absolutely nothing in preparation fees. Tax preparation at our tax center is completely free, which allows us to aid our clients in receiving the highest possible refund, with no strings attached. The average single Soldier with one W2 and no other tax documents would pay about $200 in preparation fees by using a commercial preparer, as opposed to our free service.

Our goal at the Fort Riley Tax Center is to provide free quality tax preparation services. In addition to saving our clients potentially hundreds of dollars in preparation fees, another significant benefit to using the tax center, as opposed to commercial preparers, is our experience with military-specific tax issues. Our preparers are well versed in both federal and state tax laws that benefit service members, like possible deployment credits or which states provide service members a full refund of any income tax paid into that state.

The Fort Riley Tax Center is located at Building 7034, at the corner of Normandy and Bullard streets. Our hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Appointments are available by calling 785-239-1040, and walk-ins are always welcome. Appointments are available Monday to Friday, with Saturday designated for walk-ins only. Our free tax service is available to all active-duty military, activated Reservists on orders for more than 30 days, retirees and eligible dependents.
