AF flies high at Monster Jam

2009 Monster Jam fans got an eyeful at the Alamodome on Jan 11 in San Antonio when Air Force Afterburner and 15 other monster trucks were staged to make their entrance into the Alamodome. Approximately 45,000 people attended the event. This monster truck has a 540 cubic-inch Merlin supercharged racing V-8 engine that churns out 1,425 horsepower for its driver, Damon Bradshaw. The 10,000-lb vehicle can launch from mounds of dirt and crushed cars to a height of more that 40 feet in the air. Afterburner is equipped with four-wheel steering and can be made to continuously spin on a dime. The wheels and tires are 66" tall and weigh 750 lbs. (U.S. Air Force photo/Lance Cheung)
