    Since March 22, 2018, the Afghan Air Force has both introduced and increased the use of precision guided munitions in southern Afghanistan.

    Air Force leaders announced the service will move to a single combat utility uniform, adopting the Operational Camouflage Pattern, or OCP, already in use by the Army and Airmen in combat zones and in certain jobs across the Air Force.
  • US Air Force aircraft crashes in western Iraq

    At approximately 6:45 p.m. GMT March 15, 2018, an Air Force HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter crashed in western Iraq. The crash does not appear to be a result of enemy activity. This incident is under investigation.
  • C-17 crews help realign assets to Afghanistan

    A C-17 Globemaster III assigned to the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, located at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, has its belly full of shipping containers and pallets of equipment belonging to the Army’s Bravo Company, 244th Military Intelligence Battalion. The load is moving from Iraq to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and NATO Resolute Support missions.
  • 387th AEG develops Cargo City to maintain operations

    Construction is currently underway to provide a work environment for U.S. coalition forces to continue aerial port operations in Kuwait City. The aerial port is a strategic logistics point to deliver passengers and cargo throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility and its future was put in jeopardy due to a construction project timeline issue.
  • World War II Airman remains recovered

    An Airman who served with 555th Bombardment Squadron, 386th Bombardment Group, 9th Bomber Command, during World War II was accounted for Jan. 22, 2018.
  • Flying ambulances: Aeromedical evacuation

    The morning starts early with an alert about four hours before takeoff. Members of the 379th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron begin several mandatory tasks before boarding the aircraft. Nurses go over mission details, as medical technicians pack more than a thousand pounds of equipment on a flatbed that is ready to load onto the plane. They must take all their usual gear including bandages, intravenous fluid, regulators, defibrillators, suction units and various other pieces of medical equipment. They take these supplies partially as a precaution, as they don’t know what they may need to keep patients stable in the air above the Middle East.

    For a team of Airmen from Guam, the monotony of the landscape surrounding them lies in stark contrast with the lush green hills of the Pacific island they left behind. These security forces members deployed from the 254th Security Forces Squadron of the Guam Air National Guard to secure access points to the installation and patrol perimeter fence lines and facilities of the 407th Air Expeditionary Group.

The Air Force Services Activity partnered with the Alpha Warrior team to continue building Comprehensive Airman Fitness through the newly initiated Air Force Alpha Warrior program. The program incorporates the four domains of CAF – physical, mental, social and spiritual – to achieve readiness and resilience at home and while deployed. It is expected to also help the Air Force continue to grow and develop the world’s most formidable mobility Airmen.
