Major General CRAIG NEIL GOURLEY

Maj. Gen. Craig N. Gourley is Deputy Inspector General of the Air Force, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. He assists the Inspector General in the performance of all responsibilities of the Office of the Inspector General. The Inspector General reports to the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force on the readiness, efficiency, economy and state of discipline of all components of our Air Force--Active Duty, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard

The Inspector General provides inspection policy, and oversees the inspection and evaluation system for all Air Force nuclear and conventional forces; oversees counterintelligence operations and chairs the Air Force Intelligence Oversight Panel; investigates fraud, waste and abuse; oversees criminal investigations; and provides oversight of complaints resolution programs. The Deputy IG also assists in oversight of two field operating agencies; the Air Force Inspection Agency (AFIA) and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). He performs other duties as directed by the Inspector General.

Prior to his current assignment, the General was Vice Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He was responsible for the daily operations of the command, which employs about 76,100 Citizen Airmen and consists of more than 379 aircraft among three numbered air forces, 34 wings, three flying groups and 620 mission support units. Air Force Reserve Command supports the Air Force mission to defend the United States through control and exploitation of air and space by supporting global engagement. AFRC plays an integral role in the day-to-day Air Force mission.

The general received his commission in 1978 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering. He entered pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Okla., in 1978. General Gourley was selected for the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Aggressor program and also for the Stealth fighter program. He transferred to the Air Force Reserve in 1989 where he flew F-16s and has held assignments ranging from squadron commander to Vice Commander of 10th Air Force. He is a command pilot with more than 4,500 flying hours and has flown combat missions in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
