BRIGADIER GENERAL WAYNE W. LAMBERT Brigadier General Wayne W. Lambert is deputy chief of staff, Live Oak, a headquarters co-located with Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium. He is the senior U.S. representative on an international quadripartite staff (France, Federal Republic of Germany, United Kingdom and United States) that is responsible for various plans and operations. He is responsible for the integration of U.S. national positions at the policy-making level with officials at the U.S. departments of State and Defense and the defense and foreign ministries of the other three nations. General Lambert was born in 1936, in Bainbridge, Ga., and graduated from Climax (Ga.) High School in 1953. He attended Sullivan Preparatory School in Washington, D.C., and served one year in the U.S. Army prior to entering the U.S. Military Academy in 1955. He earned a bachelor of science degree in military science from West Point in 1959 and a master's degree in business administration from Chapman College in 1976. He completed Air Command and Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1973 and the Army War College in 1977. The general was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force in June 1959. He completed pilot training at Greenville Air Force Base, Miss., in July 1960. After completing B-47 combat crew training in May 1961, he was assigned to the 301st Bombardment Wing, Lockbourne Air Force Base, Ohio. From May 1964 to June 1969 he served as a B-52 combat crewmember at Turner Air Force Base, Ga., and Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. During this time, he deployed with his unit to Southeast Asia and flew 225 combat missions. He then transferred to Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, as an FB-111A combat crew training instructor pilot. In September 1971 General Lambert was assigned to the Standardization and Evaluation Division, Headquarters 2nd Air Force, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. From May 1974 to July 1976 he served as an operational inspector with the Air Force inspector general, Air Force Inspection and Safety Center, Norton Air Force Base, Calif. After graduating from the Army War College in June 1977, he served as deputy commander for operations, 96th Bombardment Wing, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. In August 1979 he transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., as vice commander, 28th Bombardment Wing, and assumed command of the wing in August 1980. In October 1981 he was assigned to Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., as assistant deputy chief of staff for operations plans. He became assistant deputy chief of staff for operations in August 1982. In February 1983 the general assumed command of SAC's 7th Air Division, Ramstein Air Base, West Germany, where he was the command's senior European representative, responsible for overseeing SAC operations throughout the European theater. In June 1986 he was assigned as commander of the Air Reserve Personnel Center, Denver, and was responsible for the mobilization resource strength of more than 500,000 personnel. He assumed his present duties in June 1987. The general is a command pilot with more than 5,800 flying hours and 225 combat missions. His military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was promoted to brigadier general June 1, 1983, with date of rank Oct. 1, 1982. (Current as of September 1987)
