CHAPLAIN (BRIG. GEN.) HIRAM L. "DOC" JONES

Chaplain (Brig. Gen.) Hiram L. "Doc" Jones is deputy chief of the Air Force Chaplain Service, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. He assists the chief of the chaplain service in directing and maintaining a trained, equipped and professional chaplain service. This includes more than 2,350 active-duty, Guard and Reserve chaplains, enlisted support personnel and civilians for the task of providing opportunities for the free exercise of religion to all Air Force personnel and their families worldwide. As a member of the Armed Forces Chaplains Board, he and other members serve as advisers to the secretary of defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff on religion, ethical and quality-of-life concerns.

The chaplain is a native of Texas. He is a graduate of Madisonville High School, Madisonville, Texas. He entered the Air Force in 1969 after serving six years in civilian parishes. A member of the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, he has served in the Air Force Chaplain Service at wing level and in four major command offices.
