MAJOR GENERAL JOHN W. HAWLEY

Maj. Gen. John W. Hawley is commander of the Aerospace Command and Control & Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Center, Langley Air Force Base, Va. He is responsible for integrating C2 and ISR across the Air Force and with the Department of Defense joint command structure to include operational concepts, open architectures, requirements, systems and budget.

The center is comprised of more than 1100 people. It consists of a headquarters staff at Langley Air Force Base; field units at the Air Force's Command and Control Battlelab and C2 Training and Innovation Group at Hurlburt Field, Fla.; the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battlelab at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., with additional units at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. In addition, the center has liaison offices at all the major commands and Air Force Material Command centers.

The general entered the Air Force in June 1969 after receiving his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduating from the University of Wyoming. He has flown 235 combat missions over Vietnam and Northern Iraq and has commanded at the flight, squadron, group, wing and joint task force levels. Before assuming his positions at Langley Air Force Base, the general served as the director of requirements at Headquarters Air Combat Command. He is experienced in the F-4, A-7 and F-16 weapon systems, and is a command pilot with more than 2,600 flying hours.
