MAJOR GENERAL DAVID W. FORGAN Major General David W. Forgan is commander, Sheppard Technical Training Center, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. General Forgan was born in 1933, in Chicago and graduated from Lyons Township High School, La Grange, Ill., in 1951. He earned a bachelor of science degree in marketing from the University of Colorado in 1955 and a master of science degree from The George Washington University in 1966. He completed Squadron Officer School in 1962, Air Command and Staff College in 1966 and the Army War College in 1972. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and entered active duty in January 1956. He attended pilot training at Bainbridge Air Base, Ga., and Webb Air Force Base, Texas, graduating in February 1957. He completed combat crew training in F-86D's at Perrin Air Force Base, Texas, in October 1957 and was assigned to the 40th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Yokota Air Base, Japan. He returned to the United States in March 1960 and attended weapons controller training at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. He subsequently spent two years as a weapons controller at radar sites in Fordland, Mo., and Olathe, Kan. In October 1962 he was assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., where he served as a section commander and deputy wing chief on the Squadron Officer School faculty. In July 1966 General Forgan reported to the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., for combat crew training in F-105D's. He transferred to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing, Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, where he served as the wing tactics officer from January until October 1967. During that period he flew 107 combat missions, 100 of which were over North Vietnam. He served as an action officer in the Directorate of Plans, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., from November 1967 to June 1971. The general then was assigned to Torrejon Air Base, Spain, as special assistant for negotiations to the commander, 16th Air Force. In October 1972 he transferred to the 401st Tactical Fighter Wing at Torrejon, where he served as the assistant deputy commander for operations, flying F-4s. He was assigned to Zaragoza Air Base, Spain, in June 1974 as vice commander and later served as commander of the 406th Tactical Fighter Training Wing. General Forgan transferred to Headquarters Tactical Air Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va., in July 1977, as director of programs. He returned to Air Force headquarters in January 1979 as deputy director for force development, Directorate of Plans. From October 1980 to November 1982 he was assigned as deputy commander of the Joint Special Operations Command with headquarters at Fort Bragg, N.C. He then became assistant chief of staff, Operations Division, Headquarters Allied Forces Central Europe, Brunssum, Netherlands. In July 1985 he was assigned as deputy chief of staff for operations, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, West Germany. He assumed his present duties in March 1987. The general is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours. His military decorations and awards include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with 17 oak leaf clusters and Spanish Aeronautical Cross of Merit. He was promoted to major general Jan. 31, 1985, with date of rank March 1, 1981. General Forgan's hometown is Sarasota, Fla. (Current as of June 1987)
