CHARLES N. "PETE" PETERSON

Charles N. "Pete" Peterson, a Defense Intelligence Senior Leader, is the Senior Technical Adviser, Intelligence Systems Support Office, Fort Washington, Md. The ISSO supports the initiatives and activities of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. He is the principal adviser to the Director, ISSO, for assessing technical and operational risks, mitigating strategies, and determining operational efficacy to meet information and applied technology intelligence requirements.

Mr. Peterson, a native of Richmond, Va., began his career with the Air Force in 1965 as a weapons mechanic. After a tour of duty in Vietnam, he cross-trained into air traffic control radar maintenance. He was selected for the Airman's Education and Commissioning Program, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. He was subsequently commissioned through Officer Candidate School. In 1982 he was selected to attend the Air Force Institute of Technology where he received his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering.

Mr. Peterson retired in September 1989 after 23 years active-duty service. He joined Ball System's Engineering Operation and provided support to the Defense Evaluation Support Activity and National Assessment Group at Kirtland AFB, N.M. In 2002, Mr. Peterson began working at the Intelligence Systems Support Office as a program manager engineer. He was appointed as a Defense Intelligence Senior Leader in 2010.
