Lt. Gen. Robert D. McMurry Jr. is the Commander of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright- Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The center is responsible for total life cycle management for aircraft, engines, munitions, electronic, computer, network, cyber and agile combat support systems. The center employs more than 28,000 people and has a budget of approximately $258 billion.
The general also serves as the Program Executive Officer for the Rapid Sustainment Office, organized under AFLCMC, and is responsible for finding ways to save money and improve efficiencies in the sustainment of aircraft and other weapon systems throughout the Air Force fleet. RSO focus areas include robotics and automation, advanced manufacturing and condition-based maintenance plus.
Lt. Gen. McMurry entered the Air Force in 1984 through the University of Texas ROTC program. He has served in a variety of engineering, program management, staff and command positions within Air Training Command, Air Combat Command, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Space Command and the Missile Defense Agency. He commanded the 508th Aircraft Sustainment Group, Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB, Utah, where he was the F-16 System Program Manager. He directed the Airborne Laser System Program Office, organized under the Aeronautical Systems Center, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, supporting the Missile Defense Agency. He was the Director, Iraq Security Assistance Mission in Baghdad. He also served as Space Programs Director for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Arlington, Virginia; and Vice Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, California.
Prior to assuming his current position, Lt. Gen. McMurry was Commander, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
From August 2018 to May 2019, Lt. Gen. McMurry served as the Interim Commander, Air Force Materiel Command.
