Selected for promotion to major general
Brig. Gen. William Buck Waldrop, Jr is the Director of Plans, Programs and Requirements, Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), Robins AFB, Ga. He is responsible for planning and programming over $5 billion annually for a force of more than 80,000 personnel and 2500 of the command's organizations. He leads the development of strategic and contingency plans, major equipment requirements and doctrine reviews. Additionally, he leads AFRC's Total Force Integration efforts supporting nine major commands and all seven Core Function Lead Integrators (CFLIs).
General Waldrop is a native of Laurens, South Carolina. He received his commission from the ROTC program at the University of South Carolina in 1983. General Waldrop served more than 14 years of active duty as a fighter pilot and staff officer including tours of duty in the U.S., Europe and the Pacific. He transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1997 and was mobilized to active duty in 2003 in support of operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, where he served in the National Military Command Center and the Air Force Operations Group at The Pentagon. Subsequent assignments include service as Deputy Division Chief for Operations, E-10 Multi-Sensor Command and Control aircraft; Deputy AFRC Advisor to the Commander, Air Combat Command (ACC); AFRC Advisor to the Director of Plans and Programs, ACC; Commander, 307th Fighter Squadron and Vice Director, Joint Capability Directorate at US Joint Forces Command. Prior to assuming his current position, General Waldrop was the Mobilization Assistant to the Director of Plans and Programs at ACC.
In his civilian capacity, the General is an airline pilot for a major airline based in Washington D.C. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot rating in the Boeing 757/767.
