BRIGADIER GENERAL BRETT JAMES MCMULLEN

Brig. Gen. Brett J. McMullen is the Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Contracting, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington D.C. He is responsible for assisting the Deputy Assistant Secretary for all aspects of contracting relating to the acquisition of weapon systems, logistics, operational and contingency support for the Air Force.

Gen. McMullen served as the last Commanding General, U.S. Central Command, Joint Theater Support Contracting Command -Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, 2014-2015, where he was the senior DOD Contracting Official deployed in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. Prior to that assignment, Gen. McMullen served as the Commander, Air Force Installation Contracting Agency, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Gen. McMullen served in the enlisted ranks from 1981 to 1985 prior to receiving his commission from the Air Force Officer Training School, where he was his flights’ Upper Flight Captain. He has held a variety of assignments and has commanded five times at the squadron, group, agency, and combatant command levels. He has held a variety of staff positions at the major command, geographic command, joint command, and Secretary of the Air Force levels. Immediately following 9/11, General McMullen led the crisis planning and deployment of all Air Force contracting personnel. He then deployed to the CENTCOM area of responsibility to lead the Operation Enduring Freedom mission. Soon after, he deployed again prior to the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom, both times leading critical acquisition activities. During his long tenure at U.S. Special Operations Command, Gen. McMullen oversaw USSOCOM’s expansion of world-wide contingency contracting operations.
