BRIGADIER GENERAL BILLY D. THOMPSON

Brig. Gen. Billy Thompson is the Director, Regional Affairs, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.  He manages the Air Force’s direct liaison with foreign government officials, Washington agency counterparts, and representatives of the aerospace industry to implement Air Force security cooperation programs, particularly the sale of Air Force military equipment to foreign governments. The Regional Affairs Directorate provides analysis and advice to Air Force senior leaders on current politico-military affairs and their impact on the Air Force mission.    

General Thompson entered the Air Force in 1989 after graduating from the Air Force ROTC program at Auburn University, Auburn, Ala. He has served in a variety of positions during assignments in Air Force Special Operations Command, Pacific Air Forces, and Air Combat Command, and in staff positions at Headquarters, United States Special Operations Command and Headquarters Air Force.  General Thompson has served in multiple contingency operations worldwide.   

Prior to assuming his assignment, General Thompson was the Chief of the Air Force Senate Liaison office, Office of Legislative Liaison, Secretary of the Air Force, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
