Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta sent a Veterans Day message to all service members Nov. 9.

"Over the past 10 years of war, you have done all that was asked of you and more," Panetta said in the video message. "You truly are the next 'Greatest Generation.'"

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey and Sgt. Maj. Bryan Battaglia, the senior enlisted advisor to the CJCS, also sent a video message to service members for Veterans Day.

"We recognize that all of our veterans have given something of themselves to this country, and some have given all, laying down their lives for the freedoms we hold so dear," Battaglia said. "To the nearly 22 million veterans across the nation, we are honored to be counted among you."
