Air Force Academy sophomore Josh Meents was named to the ESPN The Magazine District VII Academic All-District Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Meents, an operations research major with a 3.33 overall grade point average, was named to the first team.

The Braidwood, Ill., native currently leads the Falcon baseball team with seven home runs and 25 RBIs as a designated hitter, despite starting in just 26 of the Falcons’ 40 games.

Meents also has 11 appearances as a pitcher, making five starts. The sophomore hit grand slams in back-to-back games earlier this year against Indiana State and Utah Valley State.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director.

Air Force is 10-30 on the season and returns to action May 12 at Utah.Â
