CSAF discusses advanced academic degree, PME for officer promotions

WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- In a video released Nov. 6, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Mark A. Welsh clarified changes to the advanced academic degree and professional military education expectations for officer promotions.

“I want our company grade officers and field grade officers to be the best technicians and the best young leaders on the planet in their field of work,” Welsh said.

Welsh also explained in detail what level of education is needed for promotion to major, lieutenant colonel and colonel.

“The thing we value most for promotion is job performance,” he said.

The new rules go into effect in December. For more information, visit MyPers.
