F-16 aircraft accident near Charleston

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AFNS) -- A Shaw Air Force Base F-16C Fighting Falcon and civilian aircraft collided July 7 near Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, at 11:30 a.m.

Maj. Aaron Johnson, the F-16 pilot assigned to the 55th Fighter Squadron, safely ejected and was taken to Joint Base Charleston for a health assessment.

A team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board will convene to determine the cause of the crash. There is no further information available at this time.
