4/19/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Air Force officials are soliciting nominations for the 2012 National Public Service Award.

The National Public Service Award recognizes individuals with agency-wide responsibility who exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication and accomplishment over a sustained period of time, and who are creative and highly skilled career managers at all levels of public service.

This award is open to both military and federal employees who have spent a significant portion of their careers as public service practitioners at the federal, state, local or international levels of government or in nonprofit organizations that provided direct public service.

Organizations and base-level personnel must contact their major command, field operating agency or direct reporting unit for applicable suspense dates and additional information regarding nomination procedures.

Each MAJCOM, FOA or DRU may submit one nomination. Completed nomination packages must be sent to the Air Force Personnel Center by Aug. 1, 2011.

For more information, visit the restricted Air Force personnel services website or call the Total Force Service Center at 800-525-0102.

April is Volunteer Month and wouldn't it be a great idea for the National Public Service Award go to all those volunteers at all USAF military installations that give hundreds if not thousands of hours annually to the different missions of the Air Force. I often wonder how the different base missions would be accomplished without the volunteers, yet we really only take one day to recognize them. Volunteers are just as much a part of the Air Force family as those individuals on active duty. I nominate all volunteers at every USAF installation for the National Public Service Award.
