11/7/2011 - SAN ANTONIO (AFNS) -- Airmen and families now have an easier way to make lodging reservations for Air Force Inns worldwide.
The Defense Lodging System now features online reservations and the capability for customers to leave online feedback about their stay at an Air Force lodging facility. Nearly 90 percent of all Air Force Inns have transferred to the new system. The remaining facilities are scheduled to be online by January 2012.
"DLS allows customers to make duty and space available online lodging reservations and provide us direct feedback with our online comment card system," said Jeff Richard, the Air Force Lodging technology branch chief at the Air Force Services Agency here.
While the system provides customers with a convenient option for reservations, the system also provides an added benefit to the lodging staff, Richard said.
"DLS provides us an additional channel to enhance customer service and increase room occupancy with online reservations," he said. "We can immediately capture and track customer feedback to improve on any weak areas."
The consolidation of the software and data centers DOD-wide also removes system redundancies.
"DLS centralization allows us to eliminate server and software upgrades performed at installation level," said Maj. Bruce Staufer, the AFSVA lodging division chief. "It also has a direct interface with our centralized nonappropriated fund accounting system to electronically transfer financial data versus manual input."

4/4/2012 7:48:58 PM ET Same concerns as others regarding the credit card however the site did not work well enough to even get to that point. Unable to create a user account. Also asking for a supervisor implies that you are expecting only active duty personnel to use it. If not then we retirees won't feel very welcome. Am now looking for a phone number to call in for a reservation.

2/8/2012 12:05:45 PM ET I tried the system today and above the valid comments above when creating my profile I was unable to select Gender or Card type which did not allow me to create a user.

1/18/2012 2:06:55 PM ET I too tried to use the system but did not wish to put a credit card on file. I can understand providing at the time the reservation is made with all the news of hackers gaining private information I am hesitant to use the system.

12/5/2011 1:14:58 PM ET I have tried to use the system with no success. I get a circular path that leads me from logging in with a credit card number before allowed to proceed, which takes you to a page with non-responsive links that ultimately brings you back to logging in again with your credit card number.Even my attempts to report the problem ends up with a notice that tells me the email could not be delivered.A lot more work needs to be done on this system before it is implements any further.

11/8/2011 9:59:56 PM ET Part of joining modern times in the digital world. But I have a real concern over this system as they require a user to register WITH a credit card number that is kept on file.I can understand providing payment at the time of reservation but don't agree with providing an account number for a credit card to be stored for future use. Because of this, I simply call by telephone when I need a reservation. This system needs more improvement for our own financial security.
