AF diversity strategic roadmap: A guiding light

12/4/2012 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The second edition of the U.S. Air Force diversity strategic roadmap was approved and released Nov. 19, by Daniel B. Ginsberg, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Manpower and Reserve Affairs.

The roadmap establishes the Air Force's diversity strategic foundation, serves as a guide post for all Air Force diversity initiatives, and outlines the Air Force's strategic, operational, and tactical diversity efforts.

It's the result of several months of collaboration between the Air Staff, major commands, Air Force Personnel Center, field operating agencies, and direct reporting units. All major command vice commanders and Air Staff directors concurred with the final version, reflecting a total commitment from Air Force leaders at every level.

The diversity strategic roadmap promotes the five Air Force diversity priorities: institutionalizing diversity as necessary to mission success, attracting high quality, talented, diverse individuals to consider service in the United States Air Force, in uniform or as civilian employees, recruiting high-quality, talented diverse individuals to serve with the United States Air Force in uniform or as civilian employees, developing a high-quality, talented and diverse total force and retaining a high quality, talented and diverse total force.

Each priority has associated goals, actions and measures of performance, and are intended to provide the strategic direction necessary to move the Air Force forward in key areas essential to ensure success.

The revised Air Force's Diversity Strategic Roadmap is another step in truly growing and weaving diversity and inclusiveness into the culture and fabric of the Air Force.

However, the successful implementation and execution of this roadmap requires a devoted commitment from every Airman to acknowledge, comprehend, appreciate, and embrace the strategic, operational, and tactical imperatives of diversity and inclusiveness.

"The greatest strength of our Air Force is our Airmen! The greatest strength of our Airmen is their diversity," said Gen. Mark Welsh III, Chief of Staff of the Air Force. "Each of them comes from a different background, a different family experience and a different social experience. Each brings a different set of skills and a unique perspective to the team. We just don't celebrate diversity...we embrace it!"

Stop talking about this diversity stuff. Regardless of your intentions it divides people. Focus on unity instead.
