ACC seeks air liaison officers

1/22/2013 - JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) -- Eligible officers interested in air liaison officer duty have until Feb. 7 to complete and submit their application package to Air Combat Command, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.
ALO duty is open to men and women who are active-duty crossflow candidates, inter-service transfer applicants, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, and Reserve Officer Training Corps and U.S. Air Force Academy cadets scheduled to graduate in 2013 and 2014, said Lt. Col. Mark Jablow, ACC Close Air Support Operations Branch.
"This is a great opportunity for highly-motivated candidates to become part of a rewarding operational field, leading Airmen in the joint integration of airpower," said Jablow. "Candidates should have physical and mental toughness, determination and intensity necessary for this fast-paced field."
Interested officers must be hazardous duty volunteers, and eligible for a top secret security clearance. Active-duty candidates must be released from their career field by their AFPC functional manager, as well. Interservice transfer opportunities are extremely limited and require an exception to policy, Jablow said. Those interested can contact his branch to inquire.
"The ALO application process is two-phased," Jablow said. "The first phase is an application package review. A group of candidates, 30 or 40, are then selected to continue on in Phase II, which is a five-day assessment of candidates' physical and leadership abilities."
Phase II will be held at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., March 22 - 26.
"That doesn't leave a lot of time to make sure you're in top physical condition, so don't wait to hear the results of the application review to step up your preparation, fitness and health routine," Jablow advised.
In addition, he said, interested Airmen should contact an ALO mentor for guidance, information and assistance with the application process. A list of mentors and contact information is posted on the ACC portal under the "A3FC" link.
Application packages as well as career-field articles and training resources are also available on the ACC portal link, and potential candidates can email ACC for assistance at acca3fc.jid@langley.af.mil.
