2/27/2013 - ORLANDO, Fla. (AFNS) -- For most people, a walk across the stage to accept a degree is the reward for the hard work involved. For a young Airman stationed in South Dakota, the reward was just a bit more spectacular.
Senior Airman Emily Barchenger, assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., received her associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force presented by Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley during the Air Force Association's Gala banquet in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 21.
The degree was the 400,000th presented by the Community College of the Air Force since its inception in 1972. Barchenger earned a degree in intelligence studies and technology while she was deployed with the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing in Southwest Asia.

4/4/2013 1:28:36 PM ET At Markvery impressive. Not sure how the AF figured SrA Barchenger was the actual 400K CCAF degree recipient I hope that particular fact does not show-up on any EPR's and such. CCAF yes but being a special recipient SECAF awarded etc.Anyhow congrats to all recipients

2/27/2013 10:00:47 PM ET I received my first CCAF degree in 1978. It was the stepping stone that allowed to become a public school teacher after retiring from active duty in 1988.Because of CCAF I have earned another CCAF degree plus a BS and MS from Eastern Illinois University and a MA from the University of Illinois. On July 1 2013 I will retire for the second time all because of that first CCAF accomplishment.I'm proud to be an member of CCAF.
