6/18/2013 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley will be honored during a ceremony June 21 at 1 p.m., at Joint Base Andrews, Md.

The ceremony will be live online at Air Force Link's video page (here), and broadcast on the Pentagon Channel, which is available Verizon FIOS, Dish Network and numerous cable systems.

Donley was confirmed as the 22nd secretary of the Air Force Oct. 2, 2008. He had been serving as the acting secretary since June of that year, as well as for seven months in 1993, making him the longest serving secretary in the Air Force's history.

As secretary of the Air Force, Donley is responsible for the organizing, training, equipping and providing for the welfare of its more than 690,000 total force Airmen and their families. He also oversees the Air Force's annual budget of more than $110 billion.

Donley's 35 years of experience in the national security community includes service in the Senate, White House and the Pentagon. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as the director of Administration and Management in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Third and final part of responseThings look different when the shoe is on the other foot. I think your comments of me being a complainer and having no respect for anyone was out of line.Website would not allow post all together.

Second part of original responseBut as soon as someone points this out to you they are classified as a complainer and have no respect for the senior leadership appointed above them.

S DC - I am sorry what was I thinking by expressing my opinion to your comment. So now I am a complainer and have no respect for my senior leadership Well the truth still is Millions of dollars are still being wasted on non-critical mission stuff while aircraft sit grounded personnel not getting the training required to stay proficient to do the Mission bases cannot pay operating expenses personnel losing their jobsportions of income and the list goes on and on and on.

Team15723Ceremonies ARE the mission for the USAF Honor Guard. Neale you're just complaining. Just because you don't have any respect for your senior leaders doesn't mean the rest of us don't. It was a great ceremony and went off without a hitch. Glad to have been there witnessing this moment in history.

SDC Really - So let us think a little bit about where the little amount of money is coming from and how these ceremonies actually work before complaining about it on the internet. When I will be furloughed for 11 days lose money with my TSP and oh did I mention I will also lose 2 vacation days plus 6 hours of sick leave both due to the furlough of DOD civilians I certainly will SAY this was a waste of any money that comes from a tax payer. And now the RIF has begun some DOD civilians will be furloughed and will not have a job. I think retirees and DOD civilians certainly are coughing up their fair share towards the budget mess ARE YOU

The next SECAF is going to have some big shoes to fill and great challanges to face. Secretary Donley has been an outstanding leader and spokesperson for our AF and I wish him well.

SWe are talking about the fact that ceremonies are not the mission. Air Supremacy Global Reach and Global Power are. We can't even do those things right now with Aircraft sitting on a tarmac since April. Our Air Force was gutted of experienced and high performing personnel because United States Code was violated to conveniently dismiss them so that funds could be saved. Meanwhile little to no attempt was made to identify system redundancies or to find other ways to save money. You talk about military tradition...what about loyalty fidelity and taking care of people Cheers indeed.

Relax everyone. The POTUS cancelled his African safari so those funds will now be redirected to fund all the Generals to fly in for this ceremony.

Money is put towards it because we are a military organization not a company. We have traditions and customs and courtesies and we won't let some budget constraint stop that. Plus look at the people who are in the ceremony. AF Honor Guard. One of their missions is high-level ceremonies such as this one. What would they be doing if they had no funerals at Arlington that day and didn't have this Sitting or training. I'm pretty sure the majority of personnel putting this ceremony together are volunteers with exception of the Protocol officers assigned... and again it is their job. So let us think a little bit about where the little amount of money is coming from and how these ceremonies actually work before complaining about it on the internet. Cheers.

Do not get me started on the amount of money I am losing as a GS civilian. Contrary to popular belief not all of us make BIG money I make less in a month than many military make in two weeks. It is a travesty what our government is allowed to implement on us.

Experienced performers shown the door in the name of money and yet we still have funds for this Interesting...

If the Air Force is grounding planes and Combat Troops how can they afford a ceremony for the SECAF's departureDoesn't seem fair to the Troops
