Brigadier General Mark J. Worrick is assistant comptroller of the Air Force for accounting and finance; commander, Air Force Accounting and Finance Center; and assistant director, Defense Security Assistance Agency for Security Assistance Accounting, Denver. He is responsible for operation of the worldwide Air Force accounting and finance network, paying all Air Force active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and retired members, and accounting for all monies appropriated to the Air Force by the U.S. Congress.
General Worrick was born in 1931, in Bellefonte, Pa. He received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Arkansas Tech University in 1965, and a master of business administration degree from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1969. He completed Squadron Officer School in 1963, Air Command and Staff College in 1973, National Security Management program from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1974 and the Air War College Seminar program in 1976.
He was assigned as an enlisted accounting technician at Erding Air Depot in Germany and at March Air Force Base, Calif., from 1951 until 1956. Following graduation from Officer Candidate School in September 1956, he moved to Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Mich., as a disbursing and accounting officer.
From 1961 to 1963, General Worrick became a nonappropriated funds and recreation services officer at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. He then returned to the United States and served as chief, Accounting and Finance Division, at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.
Returning to Guam in 1966, the general served as chief of the Financial Services Division. Upon completion of an Air Force Institute of Technology program at The George Washington University in August 1969, General Worrick was assigned to Air Force headquarters as a budget staff officer.
From July 1974 to June 1975, he was base comptroller, U-Tapao Royal Thai Naval Airfield, Thailand, during the height of the U.S. phase-down activities in Southeast Asia and the Mayaguez rescue incident in May 1975.
General Worrick became comptroller, Field Command, Defense Nuclear Agency, in July 1975, where he participated in the Eniwetok Atoll radioactive cleanup project. He then returned to the Pentagon in September 1977 as assistant for budget plans and programs, serving also on the Air Staff Program Review Committee. In July 1981 General Worrick transferred to Headquarters Air Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, as deputy chief of staff, comptroller.
In July 1983 General Worrick returned to the Pentagon as the deputy director of budget (operations), Office of the Comptroller of the Air Force. In this capacity he was responsible for all aspects of the operations and maintenance budgeting process and served as chairman of the Air Staff Operating Budget Review Committee. He assumed his present duties in October 1985.
The general's military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm.
He was promoted to brigadier general Aug. 1, 1984, with same date of rank.
General Warrick's hometown is Bellefonte, Pa.
