LIEUTENANT GENERAL CHARLES MCCAUSLAND Lieutenant General Charles McCausland is director, Defense Logistics Agency, Cameron Station, Va. General McCausland was born 1935, in Flushing, N.Y., and graduated from Great Neck (N.Y.) High School in 1953. He received a bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts from Syracuse University in 1957 and a master of science degree in administration from The George Washington University in 1973. He completed Squadron Officer School in 1962, Air Command and Staff College in 1967, and Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1973. He was commissioned through the Syracuse University Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1957. In September of that year he was called to active duty and assigned to the 7272nd Air Installation Squadron, Wheelus Air Base, Libya, as squadron supply officer. In March 1959 he returned to the United States and was assigned to Dayton Air Force Depot, Gentile Air Force Station, Ohio, where he held various supply positions. In 1962 the Dayton Air Force Depot activity transferred to the then Defense Supply Agency and was designated the Defense Electronics Supply Center. General McCausland served with that activity for an additional year. In June 1963 General McCausland was assigned to the Pacific Region of the Ground Electronics Engineering and Installation Agency at Wheeler Air Force Base, Hawaii, as chief of the Scheme Support Division. After completing Air Command and Staff College as a distinguished graduate in August 1967, General McCausland was assigned to the 632nd Supply Squadron, Binh Thuy Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, as base supply officer. From August 1968 to June 1970 he served with the 23rd Supply Squadron, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., as chief of supply and squadron commander. The general then moved to the Air Force Inspection and Safety Center at Norton Air Force Base, Calif., as an inspector in the Supply Division. After completing the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in August 1973, General McCausland was named chief of the Supply Programs Office, Directorate of Logistics Plans and Programs, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Systems and Logistics, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. From March 1977 to August 1979 he served as commander of the Defense Logistics Services Center, Battle Creek, Mich. He then became commander of the Defense Contract Administrative Services Region, Los Angeles. General McCausland was assigned to Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as deputy chief of staff for maintenance from March 1981 until August 1981, when he became the command's deputy chief of staff for plans and programs. In December 1982 he was named Air Force Logistics Command deputy chief of staff for logistics operations and in March 1983 he was appointed chief of staff for the command. The general became commander of Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, in September 1984. In March 1987 he was assigned as Air Force Logistics Command vice commander at Wright-Patterson. The general assumed his present position in November 1988. His military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with "V" device and three oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four service stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with six oak leaf clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was promoted to lieutenant general April 1, 1987, with same date of rank. The general's hometown is Hall, N.Y. (Current as of February 1989)
