BRIGADIER GENERAL LARRY D. CHURCH

Brigadier General Larry D. Church is deputy chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, and commander of the 7455th Tactical Intelligence Wing, Ramstein Air Base, West Germany.

General Church was born in La Junta, Colo., in 1934, and graduated from Twin Falls (Idaho) High School in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Idaho, Moscow, in 1956 and a master's degree in psychology from The George Washington University in 1963. In 1976 he graduated from the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of Idaho and completed the Imagery Interpretation Course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in March 1958. General Church was then assigned to the 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, Laon Air Base, France, where he served as a photo interpreter and air intelligence officer.

After graduating from The George Washington University, the general was assigned to Strategic Air Command's Detachment 1, 544th Aerospace Reconnaissance Technical Wing at Boiling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., as operations officer. From August 1965 to January 1966 he attended the Area Intelligence Officers Course, Fort Holabird, Md., and upon completion he was assigned to the 6499th Special Activities Group at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, as a human intelligence officer. In February 1969 General Church became chief of the Unilateral Collection Branch, Detachment 6, 6499th Special Activities Group, Saigon, Republic of Vietnam.

Upon returning to the United States in December 1969, he was assigned as chief of the Policy Branch, 1127th Field Activities Group, Fort Belvoir, Va. From June 1972 to August 1975 he served at Headquarters U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, West Germany, as chief of requirements, J-2. After graduation from Air War College in May 1976, he was assigned to the Tactical Fighter Weapons Center at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., as director of the technical resources. In May 1978 he became deputy commander of the 57th Combat Support Group and from October 1979 to November 1980 he commanded the 4513th Tactical Training Group at Nellis.

General Church then transferred to Hickam Air Force Base as assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces. In June 1983 he was assigned as assistant chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Forces Korea. He also assumed duties as deputy assistant chief of staff for intelligence, United Nations Command, and deputy chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Combined Forces Command, U.S. Army Garrison, Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea. He assumed his present duties in July 1985.

The general's military decorations and awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster.

He was promoted to brigadier general April 1, 1984, with date of rank Oct. 1, 1983.
