Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Geoffrey P. Wiedeman Jr. is the mobilization assistant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. He serves as consultant to the Surgeon General on Reserve medical affairs and readiness. He advises and recommends programs/policies to improve or enhance the mission of individual mobilization augmentees and Reserve units. He serves as liaison to multitude of medical and military functions, including Air Force Reserve medical units, medical schools, other major commands, research foundations and other health services. During wartime, he assumes an active-duty function of Deputy Surgeon General for Reserve Affairs.
General Wiedeman was a 1969 distinguished graduate of Tulane University's Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Following graduation from Tulane Medical School, he was commissioned in 1974 in the Medical Corps. Since completion of orthopedic surgery specialty training and hand surgery subspecialty training, he has held various key staff positions in tactical hospitals, overseas regional medical centers, and continental United States medical centers. He separated from active duty in 1988 after 19 years of service and joined the Reserves. He was recalled to active duty during Operation Desert Storm as the Vice Commander, David Grant Medical Center. After release from active duty, he resumed his current Reserve duties.
The general is a hand surgeon in private practice in Sacramento, Calif.
