Brig. Gen. Jeffry F. Smith is the Director of Plans, Programs and Requirements, Air Force Global Strike Command, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. He is responsible for all functions relating to strategic planning, establishing requirements, and securing programming for our nation's Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles, B-2 and B-52 bombers. This includes programs relating to the acquisition of weapon systems for USAF nuclear forces, new systems, and modifications to existing systems with a budget exceeding $6.5 billion. General Smith also provides the strategy, plans and policy to ensure these weapon systems remain viable to the nation for decades to come. Encompassing more than 26,000 people, Air Force Global Strike Command provides combatant commanders with combat-ready forces to conduct strategic nuclear deterrence and global strike operations.
General Smith received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1983. He has served in a variety of key positions, including aide-de-camp and executive officer to the Commander, Headquarters 8th Air Force, Barksdale AFB; joint task force operations officer, Headquarters U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii; and Director, Strategic Capabilities Policy, National Security Council, the White House, Washington, D.C. His commands include the 37th Bomb Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, S.D.; 608th Combat Operations Squadron and 608th Air Operations Group at Headquarters 8th Air Force; and 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB.
