Vanessa J.B. Sims, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Deputy for Budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia, where she is responsible for planning and directing Air and Space Force budget formulation and execution of appropriations. She leads a staff of civilian and military financial managers who develop, defend and execute over $215 billion in funding that supports military operations and Department of the Air Force priorities.
Prior to her current assignment, she was the Deputy Director of Programs, Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. She led a staff of military and civilians in the development, integration, evaluation, analysis, and formulation of the Air Force’s ~$1Trillion Future Years Defense Plan.
Ms. Sims was born at March Air Force Base, California, and entered the Air Force as a Palace Acquire. She began her career as a budget analyst and has held positions of increasing responsibility within the Department of Defense in areas of budget formulation, resource management, legislative liaison and political-military affairs.
