Brigadier General JESSE J. FRIEDEL

Brig. Gen. Jesse J. “Ammo” Friedel is the Commander, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. He reports directly to the Air Force Chief of Staff regarding the test and evaluation of more than 98 major acquisition programs being assessed at 17 locations and valued at more than $1 trillion. He directs the activities of more than 750 military, civilian and contractor personnel. As a key leader of the test and evaluation community, Brig. Gen. Friedel coordinates directly with the offices of the Secretary of Defense and Department of the Air Force while executing realistic, objective and impartial operational testing and evaluation of Air Force, Space Force, coalition and joint warfighting capabilities.

Brig. Gen. Friedel received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in May 1996. He earned his pilot wings from Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard AFB, Texas in 1998. Following his transition to the F-16, he served in multiple operational squadrons as an F-16 Mission Commander, Instructor Pilot, Weapons Instructor Pilot, Operational Test and Evaluation Instructor Pilot, and Flight Evaluator. He has commanded at the flight, squadron and wing levels.

Brig. Gen. Friedel is a command pilot with more than 2,900 fighter hours and has flown in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Northern Watch, Noble Eagle and South Korea defense obligations, to include 404 combat hours. During his European staff tour, he was selected to be a part of the Air Component Coordination Element as the Combat Air Forces Liaison Officer working with the Joint Task Force for Operation Odyssey Dawn.

Prior to his current position, Brig. Gen. Friedel was the United States Air Force Warfare Center Deputy Commander, Nellis AFB, Nevada.
