Brigadier General JOSEPH L. SHEFFIELD

Brig. Gen. Joseph Sheffield is the Commander of the Jeanne M. Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Citizen Development, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. As the Air Force and Space Force’s largest officer accession source, Brig. Gen. Sheffield leads 3,000 personnel, training 101,000 cadets at 995 global locations. The command includes more than 13,000 cadets at 145 host universities nationwide for Air Force ROTC, 3,500 candidates in Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, 150 trainees in Warrant Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, and 85,000 cadets in 830 high schools globally supporting Air and Space Force Junior ROTC. The Holm Center commissions 85 percent of the Air Force and Space Force’s officers. 

Brig. Gen. Sheffield received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy. He served in a variety of operational flying assignments in the B-1 and flew combat missions in Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Freedom’s Sentinel and Inherent Resolve. His command assignments include 37th Bomb Squadron Commander, 36th Operations Group Commander, and 28th Bomb Wing Commander. He has also held a number of Joint and Air Force staff positions. Prior to his current position, he served as the Chief, House Liaison Office, Legislative Affairs for the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, the Pentagon, Virginia.

Brig. Gen. Sheffield is a weapons officer and command pilot with over 3,600 flying hours and 1,125 combat hours.
