Brigadier General BARTLETT BEAMAN

Bartlett Beaman was born on July 20, 1891, at Princeton, Massachusetts. He was graduated from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1913.

He took preliminary flying training at Tours, France, in the spring of 1918, and advanced training at Issoudun, France, following which he served as ferry pilot operating from Vinet, France. He was subsequently assigned to the 12th Aero Squadron, participating in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Following the Armistice he was on duty with the 12th Aero Squadron in Germany. Upon his return to the United States in 1919, he was honorably discharged from the service at Camp Devens, Massachusetts.

He was appointed as first lieutenant in the Aviation Section of Signal Reserve on November 17, 1919. He received his captaincy in the Reserve on February 26, 1925, and his majority on April 1, 1930.

In February 1941 he was ordered to extended active duty with rank of major and assigned to the Intelligence Division of the Office, Chief of Air Corps, Washington, D.C.

In February of 1942 he received his lieutenant colonelcy (temporary) and in March was ordered to England as a Special Observer. In November of 1943 he was promoted to colonel (temporary) and on February 29, 1944, to Brigadier General (temporary). He served with the Headquarters, RAF Bomber Command and following this with the Headquarters, Eighth Air Force, during which time he was assigned as Executive Officer of the 1st Provisional Bombardment Wing and later as Chief of Staff of the 1st Bombardment Division. He returned to the United States in November of 1945.

Presently on duty with Headquarters, Army Air Forces, in Washington, D.C., he is assigned as Special Assistant to the Assistant Chief of Air Staff-1 (Personnel), for Personnel Procurement.
