JONATHON E. BYRNES

Jonathon E. Byrnes, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Director of Intelligence, Strategic Planning and Requirements (A2/5/8) for the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center. As the Director, he leads 150 cross functional subject matter experts responsible for the integration of functional, fiscal and governmental strategy and policy to deliver risk-based planning and programming options for a $21 billion installation and mission support portfolio impacting 83 installations. In addition, he provides intermediate level oversight, policy and guidance to Airmen and family services, civil engineering, security forces, base communications, chaplains, financial management, operational acquisition, public affairs and some of the logistics installation support functions.

Byrnes was commissioned in June of 1999 upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy and served on active duty until November 2024, retiring as a Colonel. He worked at the Squadron, Group, Wing, Major Command, Air Staff and Combatant Command levels and deployed four times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Inherent Resolve.

In his previous position, Byrnes served as the Deputy Director, Studies, Assessments, Analysis, Lessons Learned and Innovation Directorate (A9). In this role, he assisted the director in leading 72 personnel to provide decision support to the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Commander for direct operations of 83 major installations across the strategy, design, planning, programming, budgeting, and execution cycle for a $50 billion Future Years Defense Plan budget.
