Michael W. Smiley, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Operations, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, Department of the Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. As the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mr. Smiley is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate submission of Air Force financial statements and managing, at the executive level, the Air Force’s Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation program to progress the Department to an unqualified audit opinion, Financial Operations, Accounting and other related financial management reforms.
Mr. Smiley began his career serving in the U.S. Army as a finance soldier from 2003 to 2007. His federal civilian career with the Department of Defense began in 2009 working for the U.S. Navy as a Financial Management Analyst for Joint Forces Command. In 2011, he transferred over to the Department of the Air Force and started working for North American Aerospace Defense Command, U.S. Northern Command, as a Senior Budget Analyst.
