Brig. Gen. Roderick T. Grunwald is the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He assists the Commander in leading an intermediate-level headquarters responsible for providing installation and mission support capabilities to 83 Air Force and Space Force installations, nine Air Force major commands and two direct reporting units with an annual budget of $13 billion. One of six centers assigned to Air Force Materiel Command, the unit’s cross-functional team integrates civil engineering, operational acquisition, security forces, Airmen and family services, base communications, chaplain, financial management, logistics readiness and public affairs programs across 10 detachments and four primary subordinate units. Those units are the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Air Force Installation Contracting Center, Air Force Security Forces Center and Air Force Services Center.

Brig. Gen. Grunwald graduated from California State University, Stanislaus, in 1991, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He entered the Air Force in June 1994, graduating from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He served seven years on active duty as a flight commander and instructor for 20 missile crews and their facility management/security teams, and as a space operations officer at Vandenberg AFB, working satellite intelligence and strategic operational plans for Air Force Space Command. From 2010 to 2011, he deployed to Jordan under the U.S. Security Coordinator Joint Task Force, leading multinational training and budgeting efforts for more than 2,100 Palestinian security and civil defense personnel. His subsequent assignments included roles at Special Operations Command Central, where he developed logistics structures for anti-ISIS operations, and multiple mission support group commands.
