Retired Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, 15th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), and Gen. Glen VanHerck, Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, lead the 20th Anniversary celebration of the creation of USNORTHCOM in a hangar on Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, Aug. 30, 2022. USNORTHCOM stood up in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks and was recognized as an operational combatant command Oct. 1, 2002.
