170616-N-OU129-001 MATARA, Sri Lanka (June 16, 2017) Sailors from the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief in Sri Lanka, June 16 in the wake of severe flooding and landslides that devastated many regions of the country. Recent heavy rainfalls brought by a southwestern monsoon triggered flooding and landslides throughout the country, displacing thousands of people and causing significant damage to homes and buildings.
